On Dec. 20, 1989, the US carried out its largest invasion of a country since Vietnam. On that evening, nearly 30,000 US troops invaded the country in order to remove the then-president, Manuel Noriega, from power. The invasion centered on the poor neighborhood of El Chorrillo, which surrounded the country’s main military barracks. The neighborhood was bombed and torched. Hundreds were killed. Many, buried in mass graves. Michael Fox reports from Panama City on how the invasion is remembered today.
