A sound exhibition that you can’t really hear

A funny thing happens when you step inside the Kunsthalle in Osnabrück, Germany — you can hardly hear a thing. The structures that once gave this former chapel its acoustic glory have all been removed. That’s what drew American artist and filmmaker Alison O’Daniel to the space. O’Daniel is Hard of Hearing. In her first solo show in Germany, she says visitors get the “most accurate” representation she’s been able to reproduce of how she hears. Stephanie Wolf reports from Osnabrück.
