Martha Little

hhMartha Little is an award-winning journalist and the Executive Producer for America Abroad, where she develops the editorial direction for each monthly documentary and oversees the writing, editing and production of the program. Martha also currently works with a variety of clients including, APM's Marketplace, WBUR, and PRX.

Martha has had a long and outstanding career in public media. She has been the Senior Editor of the National Public Radio daily news programs Day to Day and Marketplace. She was also the news director at WBUR in Boston.

She has received many awards for her work, including three national Edward R. Murrow awards for her editing work for WBUR, two national Public Radio News Directors Awards and numerous regional AP and RTDNA awards. While Senior Editor for Marketplace, she shared in the prestigious Peabody Award (2000) for her work on the business news program. She received her second Peabody Award in 2006 for her work on Day to Day, the NPR program presenting varied topics, interviews and commentaries, ranging from the War in Iraq, to politics, to Hollywood.

Martha studied Soviet Security Studies and International Political Economy at the University of Southern California where she received a Masters degree and was a Ph.D. candidate.

The concept of child marriage is a completely foreign idea in the United States. Yet in many parts of the world, including South Asia and Africa, it’s as common as the idea of marriage itself. In countries such as, Niger, Chad and the Central African Republic, for example, more than two-thirds of girls were married off before their 18th birthday in 2007. That’s according to the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW).
