Indra Ekmanis is associate editor for Global Nation, the immigration desk of PRI's The World. She focuses on bringing perspectives from the humanities and social sciences to PRI's immigration coverage. Indra has a doctorate in international studies from the University of Washington, with an area focus in the Baltic Sea Region and post-Soviet space. Her work has concentrated on the everyday experiences of minority integration, immigrant identity and civil society, particularly through the lens of culture. Indra was a 2016-2017 Fulbright researcher in Latvia, and has been a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Foreign Policy Research Institute. Indra comes to PRI as a 2018 Mellon/American Council for Learned Societies Public Fellow.
