Deepa Bharath writes about religion and culture for The Orange County Register. She has covered a number of beats from city government to crime and courts for Southern California newspapers. She also writes a column for the Register titled "Healing Hearts," which focuses on forgiveness, reconciliation and restorative justice.
Deepa has reported stories out of India, Ecuador, South Africa, the UK and Germany. She has received fellowships from the International Women's Media Foundation and the International Center for Journalists to report stories about reconciliation, counter-extremism and peace-building efforts around the world. When she's not writing, Deepa loves listening to Indian classical music and traveling with her husband and son.
