Israel is holding municipal elections on Tuesday. The 362,000 Palestinians living in east Jerusalem are not Israeli citizens, but they have the right to vote for Jerusalem’s mayor and city council. But most people in east Jerusalem see themselves as a part of a future Palestinian state, and routinely boycott the local elections to protest Israel’s continued hold over all the city. This year, however, a dynamic candidate is hoping to spur east Jerusalemites to see that changing the system can only happen from the inside. Rebecca Rosman reports from Jerusalem.
