Kenya bans LGBTQ documentary, calling it ‘an affront’

Kenya has banned a documentary about a gay Kenyan man and his struggle to be accepted by his family and country. The Kenya Film Classification Board said the film, “I Am Samuel,”  blatantly violated the country’s laws that outlaw homosexuality and was “a clear and deliberate attempt by the producer to promote same-sex marriage as an acceptable way of life.” The producers of the documentary say the ban amounts to “discrimination and persecution” of LGBTQ people. Marco Werman speaks with Peter Murimi, the Kenyan filmmaker who made the documentary.
