The Taliban today announced choices for several interim positions in their new government. An influential religious figure, as well as the head of the Taliban’s political bureau, will share the top slots. Author and analyst Carter Malkasian says the inclusion of two individuals from the Haqqani Network, a US-designated terror group, means it will be difficult for Washington to recognize the new government.
