What are we to make of the Taliban now that they have risen to power in Afghanistan? For years, in many countries around the world, they’ve been designated as an extremist or terrorist group. Now that they’re in power, the dynamic may be shifting. Meanwhile, other militant groups, such as ISIS-K and al-Qaeda, are trying to exert influence in this moment of instability.
