Leader of Belarusian opposition testifies before the House Foreign Affairs Committee

Today, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, leader of Belarus’ opposition movement, testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Last summer, Tikhanovskaya ran for president against Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian leader for 26 years. Lukashenko falsified the results which led to mass protests in the country. Later, Tikhanovskaya went into exile in Lithuania, after being threatened by authorities. Now she is looking for US support with sanctions for Lukashenko and his supporters, on her path to building a free and democratic Belarus.
