It has now been 10 years since the start of the crisis in Syria. What started as a largely peaceful uprising against Syria’s President, Bashar al-Assad, quickly devolved into a war — and one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. That violence, terror, and instability was the culmination of state-sponsored violence from the Assad regime, but it was also due, in large part, to violence and crimes against humanity committed by ISIS.
