Biden chooses retired Gen. Austin for secretary of defense 

If confirmed, Gen. Lloyd Austin will be the first Black man to lead the Pentagon. Over the course of his career, Austin served in some of the highest-ranking positions in the US military, including head of US Central Command, from 2013 to 2016, overseeing US operations across the Middle East.
