The construction of a metro system in Bogotá, the biggest infrastructure project in Colombia’s history, begins this month under the direction of two Chinese corporations. The first phase of the railway is expected to stretch for about 17 miles and cost $3.9 billion. What does a project of this magnitude say about China’s growing presence in Latin America, and for US influence across the continent? Jorge Valencia has the story.
