Adam Carter was a Fulbright scholar teaching 8th grade social studies in Beijing when the pandemic hit. He’s still there doing distance learning with his students. But he’s got a new gig on the side: trying to broker deals of Chinese-made personal protective equipment — things like masks and gloves — to American hospitals in need. It’s been far more complicated than he imagined. Marco Werman speaks with Carter about his steep learning curve.
