The Supreme Court ruled today that a question about citizenship cannot appear on the 2020 census. In a 5 to 4 ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the Commerce Department needs to give a clearer justification for putting the question on the census. Julie Dowling, co-chair of the Census Bureau’s national advisory committee, has been following the case closely.
