A family business in Venice

The World

Venice is a city that runs on ancient, unwritten rules, including this one: Gondolas are made and steered by men. But two young women are challenging that tradition. Sisters Elena and Elisabetta Tramontin have inherited the gondola-making workshop run by their father, who died last year. The women are determined to keep the family business going into its 135th year. Our Italy correspondent James Reynolds visited them at their workshop in Venice.
