‘Mawtini’ in Algeria

Mawtini means “my homeland” in Arabic. For nearly two weeks, Algerians have been in the streets, angry that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika wants an unprecedented fifth term in office. Last night in Algiers, the protests grew larger and protesters were singing “Mawtini.” Marco Werman spins a heartfelt rendition of “Mawtini” by the famous Lebanese singer Elissa.
