Those who tried to escape East Germany for the freedoms of the West used all sorts of methods — some swam, some biked, some tunneled — and many were caught and jailed. But, now, 30 years later, they say they don't regret their efforts.

But if the Turkish president does deport Syrian refugees, he won’t be sending them to a “safe zone,” as promised.
