FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, January 8, 2018 — Public Radio International (PRI), leader, producer and distributor of multi-platform storytelling and award-winning journalism that empowers people to enrich their lives and the world, is launching three new podcasts this winter: Otherhood, Things That Go Boom, and The Science of Happiness. Exploring complex and multi-layered topics, the podcasts aim to help deepen understanding and bridge points of view across audiences.

“PRI is pleased to offer new podcasts by three very talented hosts and reporters who bring unique expertise, voices and compelling stories to the big topics of the day,” said Melinda Ward, Chief Content Officer of Public Radio International.

Otherhood (launching January 15) – What would the news sound like if media were diverse? Listen as PRI’s The World® journalist, Rupa Shenoy, investigates stories of race and identity you don’t hear elsewhere in the new season of Otherhood. Episodes will explore the stories of adoptees in the Trump era, race and identity in Hollywood, and Portland communities one year after the deadly light rail attacks.

Things That Go Boom (launching January 22) – Fed up with a lack of diversity and an abundance of BS in her field, national security analyst Laicie Heeley goes looking for real conversations with real people about tough topics – like nuclear weapons, white nationalism, and bears – on Things That Go Boom, a podcast about the ins, outs, and whathaveyous of what keeps us safe. Listen to the trailer at PRI.org.

The Science of Happiness (launching February 5) – We all want to be happy, and there are countless ideas about what happiness is and how we can get some. But not many of those ideas are based on science. That’s where The Science of Happiness comes in. Hosted by Dr. Dacher Keltner, award-winning professor of psychology at UC Berkeley and the founding director of the Greater Good Science Center, this podcast explores the research-based principles for a happy, meaningful life. Each episode focuses on a different way to bring more happiness, resilience, kindness, and connection into your life, combining real-world stories with cutting-edge science.
