Cuban beats live on

Compay Segundo, "the grandfather of Cuban Son," lives on through the legacy of his music. His band, now led by his youngest son, Salvador Repilado, recently performed in a seaside town north of Rome.

Backstage, Repilado spoke to the GlobalPost about traditional Cuban Son, a musical genre, on the island before the revolution. He says the U.S. embargo has limited musical exchange between Cuba and the U.S. for almost 50 years, and he hopes U.S. President Barack Obama will change this policy.
