BOSTON, Mass. — The Connecticut shooting Friday triggers horrific memories of youth killings over the years. The Columbine attack and Virginia Tech massacre — the country’s deadliest school shooting — are among the most appalling examples.

While the United States has gained world infamy for such atrocious acts, it is not alone. Children have become the target of lone gunmen across the globe. Of recent crimes, Anders Behring Breivik's massacre in Norway in July 2011 and the murders at a Jewish school in Toulousse, France in March of this year remain clear in the consciences of those countries — and the world.
