New Massacre in Syria

The United States has condemned the latest massacre in Syria.

A White House statement said President Bashar al Assad’s “continued abdication of responsibility” for such horrific acts “has no credibility.”

Activists say the new massacre happened Wednesday in a rural area near the city of Hama.

Dozens of men, women and children were reportedly killed with guns, knives and fire.

What happened cannot yet be independently verified.

But Martin Chulov has spoken to three witnesses.

He’s Beirut correspondent for Britain’s Guardian newspaper.

The witnesses said government forces shelled the area, centered on the village of Qubeir.

Then pro-government militiamen, called Shabiha, went in and “finished the job.”

The witnesses knew some of the attackers.
