International news outlets are spending a lot of time on the horse-race aspects of the presidential campaign. There’s more emphasis on personalities than the issues. One Chinese paper covered who was in the lead on both parties’ sides. Al Aribiya led with Super Tuesday and it was almost like a post-sports game coverage. A Spanish TV station covered the elections by describing Super Tuesday as the most hard fought in the history of the US. A British newspaper had a cover page of Obama and Clinton and asked Superman or Superwoman? This American ex-pat living in London says there’s a palpable fascination there in the presidential race. The process she’s referring to is the powerful narrative of American elections, even if the country’s image has taken a dip abroad. She says another reason the world is interested has to do with the colorful cast of players involved, a preacher, a war hero, a woman, a black man.
