Nicolas Maduro wins Venezuelan Election by a Narrow Margin

Hugo Chavez is dead.

But you could say the former president won again in Venezuela.

His handpicked successor Nicolas Maduro eked out a victory in yesterday’s presidential vote.

But it was much closer than expected, 50.7 to 49.1 percent.

The opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles, called for a recount, citing what he says were voting irregularities.

Reporter Phil Gunson in Caracas said the narrow margin was surprising, considering Maduro’s huge advantage.
