The Honduran ambassador to Colombia was forced to resign Saturday after it was discovered a Christmas party held at the embassy involved an orgy and unpaid prostitutes.

According to Agence France-Presse, Carlos Rodriguez Andino stepped down when Honduran Foreign Minister Arturo Corrales received a report about the incident written by a special commission appointed to investigate what happened at the December 20 party in Bogotá.

"In order to safeguard national interests and good relations with the Republic of Colombia, we asked for the ambassador's irrevocable resignation and Mr. Rodriguez stepped down, effective immediately," the foreign ministry said.

The Guardian reported that Andino was not present at the party and that it was his aide, Jorge Mendoza, who had thrown the bash. The diplomatic mission's offices were said to have been left in shambles, with papers scattered everywhere and computers and phones stolen.

Employees said when they arrived at work the next day they found Mendoza asleep in the laundry area of the embassy and a Colombian man was found in the basement. They called police, who questioned the aide about the party and missing items.

Reports noted that it was the prostitutes who were working at the party who stole embassy computers and cell phones, and who also defecated on the desks of the ambassador and the commercial attaché, after they were asked to leave without being paid, said AFP. Officers are seeking to speak with two prostitutes who went to the embassy in a vehicle about the party and the alleged theft.
