US Open: Novak Djokovic to face Andy Murray in the finals

The US Open finals will pit Novak Djokovic against Andy Murray on Monday, as weather pushed both the semi-finals and finals back a day.

The semi-finals game between 25-year-old Serbian Djokovic and Spaniard David Ferrer was cut short due to severe weather on Saturday, and resumed Sunday under perfect conditions and with a much stronger, more focused Djokovic, who came back to beat his oponent 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, ESPN reported.

"It's definitely a huge relief to get through this match," Djokovic told the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd, the Los Angeles Times reported. "He's one of the fittest guys on tour and he never gives up. We were all praying for less wind today. I think Ferrer handled the wind much better than I did Saturday. I came in today a different player."

Monday's match, which begins at 4 p.m. EST live on CBS, will be Djokovic's fourth US Open final. The women's match between Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and the US' Serena Williams will start at 4:30 p.m. 

Murray—who is still trying to become the first Brit to garner a Grand Slam-level win since Fred Perry's 1936 victory—is a pretty even match for Djokovic.

Both men have shone this season, with Djokovic's wins at the Australian Open semifinal and Miami final, and Murray's in the semifinals at Dubai and the London Olympics, the New York Times pointed out. 

"I don't think there's any clear favorite," said Djokovic, who has beat Murray in their matches 8-6 despite losing at their last meeting. "He's looking for his first Grand Slam title. I'm sure he's going to be very motivated, and hopefully we can come up with our best tennis for this crowd."

We'll just have to wait until Monday, then.
