Gymnast Aly Raisman wins gold, matches Gabby Douglas

Aly Raisman won gold in the floor exercises Tuesday, tying up her gold medal wins with fellow US gymnast Gabby Douglas. 

Though the rest of the US gymnastics' team "fierce five" didn't fare so well (Douglas and world champion Jordyn Wieber placed seventh in the balance beam and floor competitions, respectively) they're still proud of their captain, ESPN reported. 

"I'm so happy, going home with two Olympic gold medals and a couple of titles under my belt," Douglas, the first African-American woman to win the all-around gold medal, said. "I'm so happy for Aly, she deserves to be up on that podium."

If you add in Raisman's bronze medal on balance beam from earlier Tuesday, she is now the most decorated US Olympic gymnast, the Associated Press reported.

Raisman, from Needham, Massachusetts, is the first American woman ever to win the floor exercise at the Olympics, the Boston Globe reported. She earned a score of 15.6, beating her rivals silver medalist Catalina Ponor of Romania (who scored 15.2 and bronze medalist, Russia's Aliya Mustafina.

"I felt like I had nothing to lose," Raisman told reporters of her routine, which she called the best she's ever done. "It was going to be my last memory for London, so I just wanted to make it count and enjoy it."

Raisman won three medals in London, including the United States's first team gold since 1996, the Globe reported. Overall, the American gymnasts took five medals, their lowest count since 2000.
