A Canadian woman shot in the eye insisted on finishing her beer before allowing medics to treat her, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

The 30-year-old woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was shot through the eye in a New Year's Eve attack that killed her friend, the newspaper reported.

But when police and paramedics arrived on the scene, the injured woman was "calmly sitting in a chair."

"It was like she was oblivious to what had happened. She didn't want any treatment until after she finished her beer," a source told the Free Press.

The woman appeared to be severely intoxicated by drugs or alcohol or both.

The Free Press reported that the woman is in stable condition in hospital. Her friend, an unidentified man, was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died of his injuries.

Neighbors said the house where the attack took place is a notorious hotspot for drug activity.

“There’s always troubles down there,” a neighbor told the Winnipeg Sun. “Cars are coming and going like God damn flies down there.”
