Alex graduated from the School of Oriental and African studies where he studied Social Anthropology and specialized in Burmese ethnic issues. He is now based on the Thai-Burma border where his expertise lies in reporting on developments inside Burma and around the troubled border regions. His focus lies in conflict, human rights and ethnic issues inside Burma and across South East Asia. He can speak conversational Burmese and his work has been published in The Independent, The Irrawaddy, Aftenposten Bangkok Post and others.
