America's election results were announced on the same day Germany marks the fall of the Berlin Wall. But unlike some of Donald Trump's US critics, Germans are very careful to avoid drawing parallels between the president-elect and their past.
US President Donald Trump welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the White House today, for talks expected to focus on their differences over NATO, Russia, global trade and a host of other issues.
"The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I've experienced that in the last few days," Merkel said, following Donald Trump's trip to Europe he called "a great success for America."
