Tunisian Star Wars cosplayers dance to “Happy” on Tatooine (VIDEO)

This epic video features cosplayers from Star Wars Tunisia dancing to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” — on the original set of Tatooine, the desert home planet of Anakin and Luke Skywalker. The viral song and its 24-hour music video have inspired YouTube homage from around the world, including Tunisia

But this version has an on location cast of C-3PO, Darth Vader, R2-D2, Boba Fett and others, bringing things to full nerdgasm:

Tatooine is actually located 40 km northwest of Tozeur, Tunisia in the Sahara desert — and it's named after the nearby (real) town of Tataouine. The film set was all but forgotten until 2010, when photographer Ra Di Martino rediscovered it using Google Maps. Now it's a pilgrimage destination for die-hard Star Wars fans, with the support of the National Office of Tunisian Tourism.

Sadly Tatooine is under constant threat of being buried under sand, which has actually helped scientists track the migration of the large, crescent-shaped dunes known as barchans. In 2012, an international Facebook campaign helped fund the restoration of the Lars homestead. Tunisian authorities have also helped clear sand from Mos Espa, the Tatooine spaceport and recent site of "Les Dunes Electroniques,” a sort of Tunisian Burning Man.

Basically everyone's having more fun than you but you should join them. Make your own “Happy” video or better yet, attend the first-ever Star Wars fan gathering at Tatooine in May 2014.
