This could be the greatest Valentine's Day prank ever.

A group of bitter singles in Shanghai banded together to buy up every odd-numbered seat for a Valentine's Day showing of "Beijing Love Story," forcing couples to sit separately for the romantic flick.

“Want to see a movie on Valentine’s Day?” one of the organizers, who goes by UP, said in a message online.

“Sorry, you’ll have to sit separately. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

A self-described "computer nerd" who suffered a breakup last year, UP said he was just trying to do something nice for fellow singles on a day many come to dread.

He initially tried to buy all of the tickets to the show, but was turned down, according to the Shanghai Morning Post.

So he turned to a group-buying website and social media for help.

A cinema employee told the Xi'an Daily it had decided to sell the remaining seats at a steep discount.

The stunt drew mixed reviews on China's microblogging site Sina Weibo.

Some users praised it as brilliant, while others called it sadistic and ill-planned.

"The dream of many singles has finally come true," wrote one user.
