New York man throws son off high-rise, jumps after

An aggrieved father threw his 3-year-old son and then himself off a 52-story building on New York's Upper West Side on Sunday, in a tragic event reportedly due to a custody battle.

Dmitriy Kanarikov, 35, died after jumping from the Lincoln Square tower on 60th St. after throwing his son, Kirill, dressed in Christmas pajamas, over the edge.

Brooklyn resident and Ukrainian immigrant Kanarikov was required to give his son to his estranged wife at a Manhattan precinct that day.

The New York Post said that the father's Facebook page was filled with smiling photos of his wife and son.

It is believed that Kanarikov may have had a friend in the building but it remains unclear as of Sunday night as to why he chose the luxury condominium.

The bodies were found on a fourth floor landing. Their placement indicated that the child was thrown, whereas the father took a more direct drop.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene. Kirill was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital across the street from the incident.

“I want to be the best dad and husband,” he said in a September, according to the Post. “Nothing is more important to me right now.”
