NYC police searching for gunman who shot dead baby in stroller

New York City police are searching for the gunman who fatally shot a 1-year-old boy in a stroller on Sunday evening as his parents pushed him across a street.

The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m. in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The boy, Antiq Hennis, was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to his face, but was declared dead on arrival.

No one else was injured. The New York Daily News, citing police sources and family members, said the boy’s father was the intended target.

“He was screaming, ‘My baby got shot.’ He was going crazy,” said Gina Gamboa, who witnessed the shooting.

“The baby was breathing, but his eyes were closed. It’s crazy. They just will start shooting.”

It was at least the second such incident this year. In March, a 13-month-old toddler was shot to death in a stroller during an attempted robbery in Brunswick, Georgia.

An 18-year-old was convicted over that killing on Friday.
