George Zimmerman found armed when stopped for speeding in Texas (VIDEO)

Police who pulled over George Zimmerman for speeding in Texas on Sunday say he had a gun in his car.

Brian Brooks, city manager of Forney, Texas, about 25 miles outside Dallas, said Zimmerman told the police officer who stopped him he was going "nowhere in particular.

It is legal in Texas to travel with a gun in the glove compartment, and police often ask drivers if they have one in the car.

The former Florida neighborhood watchman was recently cleared of charges in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

That verdict sparked protests in a number of US cities and a national debate over race, the justice system and the nation's current self-defense laws.

A police dashcam video released Wednesday shows the officer telling Zimmerman: "Don't play with your firearm," and asking him to close the glove compartment.

The officer told the 29-year-old to slow down and let him go with a warning.
