Military Coup Staged in Egypt, Morsi Ousted as President

The Takeaway
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, who was elected democratically just one year ago, has officially stepped down from power. In addition to removing the president, the army has suspended the constitution and called for early elections. According to our partner The World, soldiers backed by armored vehicles have been deployed near where Morsi supporters have gathered.   President Morsi had "failed to meet the demands of the Egyptian people," Gen Abdul Fattah al-Sisi said to protesters in Cairo. During the address, the military  laid out a road map for the future of the nation. As celebrations take to the streets, we look to see what this development means. Joining us from Cairo is Yasser el-Shimy, analyst with the International Crisis Group in Cairo. Shadi Hamid, director of Research at the Brookings Doha Center also weighs in, along with Ayah el Said, an independent economist in London right now, but usually based in Cairo.
