The protests at Taksim Square in Istanbul, Turkey have lasted nearly two weeks now.

And for police and the government there, it looks like they've reached the breaking point.

In a televised speech, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan defended police intervention and the use of tear gas and rubber bullets in the square on Tuesday.
