Woman convicted of cutting off husband’s penis and throwing it in garbage disposal
In 1994 a jury found Lorena L. Bobbitt not guilty of all criminal charges, concluding that she was temporarily insane when she cut off her husband’s penis with a kitchen knife.
A jury convicted a woman of drugging her estranged husband before cutting off his penis with a 10-inch kitchen knife and throwing it in the garbage disposal.
Catherine Kieu, 50, was found guilty Monday on charges of torture and aggravated mayhem for the attack, which occurred on July 11, 2011. She will be sentenced on June 28.

Prosecutors said Kieu and her husband, who is not being named because of the nature of the attack, had an argument at their California home. She laced his soup with the sleeping pill Ambien, then tied him up after he fell asleep. She then woke him up, cut off his penis and threw it in the garbage disposal before calling 911 and telling police that her husband "deserved it."
The man was treated and released from UC Irvine Medical Center, but doctors could not reattach his penis.
During trial, the 60-year-old victim testified that the inability to reattach his penis made him feel as though he had been murdered.
Kieu was said to be angry with her husband for filing for divorce after 16 months of marriage.
Her attorney said she had mental health problems caused by childhood molestation and other trauma in war-torn Vietnam. He also accused Kieu's husband of verbal and sexual abuse.
