Seattle-area avalanches leave 1 dead, 1 missing
Police and military helicopters have been sent to Mt Sorbmegaisa near Tromsoe on Norway’s Arctic coast on Monday, with rescue workers also using dogs in their search.
A woman is dead and a man is still missing following an avalanche in the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle.
The female snowshoer's name has not been released.

She died nine hours after rescue crews found her barely concscious under nearly 5 feet of snow, the Seattle Times reported.
Rescuers have indefinitely suspended the search for a 60-year-old male hiker buried in an avalanche on Granite Mountain, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
He was among three men who were buried in the first avalanche on Granite Mountain, which took place at about noon today. The other two men emerged injured from the snow.

The woman had been hiking with her dog near about a dozen other people yesterday afternoon when an avalanche hit Red Mountain east of Seattle.
Mountains in eastern Washington State have been hit with new snow in recent days, with a ski area at Snowqualmie Pass reporting 11 inches.
Avalanche danger was high in the area this weekend. Avalanches are more likely when a layer of new snow falls on a crustier, more solid layer of old snow, according to the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center.
