The seal spent about an hour out of the ocean, attracting many curious passerby.

Elephant seals are one of the world's largest marine mammals, with males (much larger than females) potentially reaching lengths of 20 feet and a weight of 8,800 pounds, according to National Geographic.

Male elephant seals carry around a prominent proboscis, likely earning them their name. They engage in epic fights over females on the beach during mating season, one of nature's more impressive spectacles.
