Mexico fireworks explosion death toll rises to 17

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The death toll from Friday's fireworks explosion during a religious procession near Mexico City has risen to 17, after four victims died from their injuries, the Associated Press reported Monday.
El Universal reported 14 men, one woman and two children, aged three and 11, died after a stray firecracker landed on a pickup truck, igniting the fireworks it carried.
More than 150 people were also injured in the freak accident which occured during the annual procession for the patron saint of Jesus Tepactepec, a small village of about 1,000 people 70 miles east of Mexico City.
Authorities in the central Mexican state of Tlaxcala declared three days of mourning for the victims.
A mass funeral for 13 of the victims was held Sunday.
