A look back through the years at Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, who died on Tuesday, Vice President Nicholas Maduro announced.

Chavez died at 4:25 p.m. local time in Caracas, the Associated Press reported. He had been suffering following cancer treatments from severe respiratory ailments for weeks.
