New Facebook news feed to be unveiled

Your Facebook news feed is getting a new look.

The social network announced plans today to unveil a news feed makeover at a media event March 7 at its Menlo Park, California, headquarters, TechCrunch reported.

One of the "pillars" of Facebook profiles, the news feed displays photos, videos and other content from a user's network of friends.

It was last updated in September 2011, according to Reuters.

That overhaul wasn't a huge hit with users initially, though many came to enjoy the "top stories" news feed option, among other things.

Facebook has been testing improved versions of the news feed in mobile apps, and recently overhauled its iPhone and Android apps to make them faster, according to ABC News.

The announcement would be Facebook's second major unveiling this year.

The site released a social search feature in January that allows users to search their friends' content on the Facebook platform, according to CNBC.

It comes on the heels of Facebook acquiring digital advertising company Atlas from Microsoft.
