A re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act is making its way through the US Congress. Stopping violence against women, doesn't seem like there's much to debate about? Yet, some legislators have balked at one new provision pertaining to Native American women. Currently non-natives who commit domestic violence on native soil cannot be prosecuted in tribal courts. This new provision would change that. But this is bringing up questions about Native American sovereignty. Anchor, Carol Hills talks with Sarah Deer a law professor at William Mitchell College and a citizen of the Muscogee tribe.
