GIF of the Day: Marco Rubio's ill-timed water grab

Maybe Sen. Rubio (R-FL) should have taken a swig of one of these bad boys before his live televised speech. Just a thought.

The stage is set. The prompters are on. You can feel the heat of the incandescent TV production lights beating down on you. You get the three-second countdown. The green light comes on...

...And then it hits you. You realize that you should have hydrated before you stepped into the harsh, unforgiving spotlight of live TV.

This is precisely what happened to Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) last night as he delivered the televised Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union Address.

Seriously, Rubio, even though your committment to maintaining eye contact with the camera rivals that of a middle-schooler in a staring contest, we are not impressed.

But let's be real. We've all been in Rubio's shoes. Well, not really, but we are mildly sympathetic to his situation. After all, when you're thirsty, you're thirsty.

Next time though, maybe lay off the pre-speech pretzels?

That said, let's give the man a little credit. Rubio, who seems to have a sense of humor, is trying to own the moment. He tweeted:

Should have thought about taking a swig of that before the cameras came on, are we right?
