Afghanistan: Suicide bomb kills police officers

A suicide bomber attacked shoppers at a busy market in Afghanistan today. The attack, which occurred in the city of Kunduz, killed at least 12 people, including the city's head of counter-terrorism and the head of traffic police, the Associated Press reported.

Officials say that at least 18 others were wounded, including more police officers, Radio Free Europe reported. The suicide bomber was on a motorcycle when he blew himself up.

No one has claimed responsibility yet, but Taliban insurgents are linked to a series of similar attacks in Afghanistan, BBC News reported. The Taliban has been waging war for more than a decade against the US-backed Afghan government.

The attack follows another bomb earlier today that struck in the Afghan city of Ghazni. In that attack, a remote-controlled bomb planted on a bike exploded, killing one police officer and one civilian, the AP said.
