In a New Year, Comfort from Predictions of What’s to Come

The Takeaway

As one year comes to an end, it’s time to see what the coming year holds. So, why not check the almanac?
The “J. Gruber’s Hagerstown Town and Country Farmer’s Almanack” is the nation’s second oldest almanac. The volume is now entering its 217th consecutive year of publication. For the paltry price of $4.99 readers can check the weather for next year’s Memorial Day  barbecue  and brush up on new uses for dental floss.
Bill O’Toole is the Almanack’s 7th prognosticator, a post he has held for 44 years. He is the sole man responsible for divining the weather and recording every other piece of advice in the almanac.   He joins The Takeaway to take a look ahead to 2013.
