Havard Rugland gets Jets tryout with YouTube video

GlobalPost

Havard Rugland, 27-years old, from Algard, Norway, made an aptly titled YouTube video, "Kickalicious," in which he kicks a football (the American kind) in a garbage can, a moving boat and a basketball hoop. He also kicks the occasional field goal.

After the video was posted on Sept. 15, it went viral - it has now been viewed by over 1.5 million people - and soon Rugland got a call from the Jets.

The video's captions reads:

"Havard Rugland is a Norwegian who has absolutely mastered the art of kicking American Football. Havard is the best kicker I have ever seen, he has just tried out for the Jets, I sincerely hope that he makes the team, I can not see how he won't! Good Luck Havard Rugland!!"

Rugland spoke with The New York Times about this tryout, admitting, "Look, I don’t know much about football. But I’m fascinated by it. There’s great athletes and speed and big hits. I thought it was interesting. So I wondered, What can I do?”

Apparently quite a lot.

Rugland is now training with professional kicking coach Michael Husted, who told Reuters the Norwegian could be great.

"Havard has incredible talent as a kicker," Husted said, "He has a cannon for a leg. As he continues to refine his technique, he could be one of the strongest kickers in the NFL."

About his tryout Rugland told Norwegian TV station NRK, "It went well," adding, "They tested me on field goals and kickoffs. Obviously you feel a little more pressure here, but I stayed pretty calm."
