Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's former president, has been transferred from a Cairo prison to a military hospital as his health continues to worsen, CNN reports. Doctors found fractures in his ribs from a recent fall.

AFP reports that Egypt's state prosecutor ordered the transfer of the 84-year-old, who will return to prison after he has been treated.

The 84-year-old former Egyptian President suffered a stroke in June of this year soon after he was sentenced to life for the killing of protesters during the revolution, and was taken to the hospital in "critical" condition.

However, the former President appears to have rallied, although he continues to suffer from poor health.

He has been in and out of military hospital facilities in recent weeks, most recently on December 19th, following a fall in the prison bathroom, reports AP.

The news agency states that some Mubarak critics feel reports of his failing health are meant to garner sympathy for the deeply unpopular former leader.

However, Mubarak's doctor is concerned that he isn't getting adequate care at the prison's infirmary.

"I have warned many times that the prison hospital conditions are not suitable," he said.

Mubarak's thirty-year rule ended in February 2011, after Egypt's democratic revolution swept him out of power.
