Code Pink protesters target NRA news conference

Protesters interrupted a news conference held by the National Rifle Association today, accusing the powerful gun-rights group of “killing our kids.”

The NRA broke its silence on Tuesday over the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., vowing to make “meaningful contributions” to ensure such an event never happens again.

At Friday's news conference in Washington, DC, held exactly one week after Adam Lanza shot dead 26 children and teachers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" and accused the media of encouraging copycat killers. 

LaPierre was interrupted twice by two protesters holding posters accusing the NRA of having "blood on your hands" and demanding a ban on assault weapons, according to NPR.

The protesters, from the social justice activist group Code Pink, were quickly removed from the room.
